"HML 167 Vietnam Memorial" Sculptor: Mark Austin Byrd Medium: Clay model for Bronze Size: About 4' high
Mark Austin Byrd has been selected by members of HML 167 to design and sculpt the memorial. It is anticipated that it will be permanently installed on the walk of valor at the new National Museum of the Marine Corps, Quantico, VA. The memorial will be a bronze topographic may in exaggerated relief, showing the land, rivers and the sea. The names of all members of the squadron who were KIA will be listed with a memorial tribute to their sacrifice. The squadron losses will be grouped by aircraft with a citation of mission and location of the loss. Locations of all losses will also be clearly marked on the map. Grid lines as well as locations and names of numerous towns, bases, mountains, rivers, and other topographic features will be sculpted into the surface of the map, making it possible for viewers to locate other events perhaps from their own war experiences. The map will be mounted on a stone or cast concrete pedestal.
