"CLAUSEN"
Sculptor: Jenelle Armstrong Byrd
Medium: Shown in clay.
Size: 3" x 2"x 7.5" high
Statue of the late Private First Class Michael
Clausen, who earned the Medal of Honor while serving as a helicopter crew
chief during the Vietnam War. Clausen voluntarily and against his
commanders orders repeatedly ran through a minefield under heavy enemy
fire to rescue Marines pinned down in the minefield.
Mike Clausen was the only enlisted Marine
in the USMC Air Wing to earn the MOH in Vietnam.
The sculpture was created on learning of Michael's death. The first sculpture in this edition was presented to Michael
Clausen's widow Louis as a gift by Valor Remembered Foundation at the
biannual reunion of the USMC Combat Helicopter Association in Reno,
Nevada. The sculpture will be used to raise interest in the
creation of a memorial to preserve the legacy of Michael Clausen's valor.
