1943"
Sculptor: Jenelle Armstrong Byrd
Edition: Open edition
Medium: Clay to be cast in bronze
"During
World War II, American children, recognizing the gravity of the war,
spontaneously paid homage to their uncles and fathers and to our flag."
"One day in
Corsicana, Texas, my mother ran for her camera when she saw my brother
(the youngest of the four boys) and his playmates holding a parade with
homemade guns. "
"I dedicate this sculpture to my uncle, Pvt. Luther Dewey
Putman, who was killed in the liberation of France, and to his two sons
who never knew him."
